Load failed no backup found terraria что делать
I just want to preface this saying Steam cloud is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It doesn’t make backups for your save at all. Now, to get to the issue at hand here; my game, after leaving for a minute and going back in again, just magically corrupted out of nowhere. I couldn’t play it at all, because it told me the «load failed» all of a sudden. Desperate to not lose literal days of progress, I scanned my Terraria worlds folder for a backup file. I did find one, but the sad thing is, the world saved back in pre-hardmode, when at this time I was post-mechanical bosses, and had just finished making an arena for Plantera with full turtle armour. Days of world progress had disappeared right before my eyes, in the matter of a minute. Literally.
Anyway, I’m here to ask, is it possible to retrieve a world save back literally any other way than from the backup files? I noticed the map on the world still saved as the corrupted map’s version, except uncorrupted; so would it be possible to restore my save based on the map file for it? I would really love to know, because this is infuriating to deal with. I will never use Steam cloud again to hold my saves.
The map file for your world in your character directory is literally just saved map of the worlds that character has visited and explored around in. If you delete them, then go to a world you’ve been to before, you’ll no longer have a map and will have to re-explore it, just like when you first visited it. The map file has no data beyond what blocks are where, and even that information is only updated when you visit the vicinity of those objects.

Well that’s a shame. Thanks for explaining it to me, anyway. I think I will just use an editor to modify the map again, as close back to where I was beforehand.
Sorry to hear that Steam Cloud screwed you over. I really don’t even know why this game has Cloud integration, given that it interacts so unforgiveably terribly with it.
Then again, Steam Cloud is kinda garbo to begin with, given that you can’t know exactly what data you have on the Cloud or manage it in any way outside of hoping your games load the right files when they access it. It is irritatingly obtuse, and that’s before you consider its penchant for deleting your data with no warning beforehand and no recourse afterward.

I already looked for discussions about this error (and found a lot of them, pretty recent), but I decided to create a new discussion so someone could try to help me in my specific situation.
I don’t use any mods, both my current world and character had the synch to cloud option on, I don’t quit the game while saving and I always wait for steam synch to be over before doing anything else on my PC. My character is fine.
Still got the error.
Then I realized my saves in the cloud of my other world are both more than 10.000 KB, but my failed word is only 3.703 KB (1/3 of the size). The date of the file is set right though, the exact moment when I last quit the game (2 days ago).
After some more research, some people said to use TEdit to look for possible corrupted stuff inside the world file, and I tried that as well (but I don’t know if I did it correctly).
When I load the filed, got the following error:
«There was an error reading the world file. This is usually caused by a corrupt save file or a world version newer than supported.
TEdit v4.0.0-beta23
TEdit Max World: 228 Current world: 230″
and some log reports more.
If I force the load anyway, I only get the first 1/3 of the world loaded, and empty spaces for the other 2/3. But everything of the first 1/3 is there.
I already lost a save recently because of corruption (battery died while I was playing) and I didn’t want to spend dozens of hours again on another world.
It definitely seems that Steam Cloud isn’t worth a minute of my time.
If anyone knows how to solve this, help will be very apreciated.

It makes no sense though. How the ♥♥♥♥ can it get corrupted in just a second when i’m not using any mods or nothing?

It’s when the world is auto-saving and you exit in the middle of it so it saves over itself.

That sounds like terrible coding. Perhaps the devs should be sent to some camp where they can learn to code properly.
You do realize no game is bug-free, right?
So is there not any way to fix this? Appearantly theres no backup either. I DO have a manual backup BUT thats at least 10-30h loss + theres no point in using that really if its just gonna end up being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ corrupted again.

Delete the file extension or the file?
No, you mentioned he only has a version with a “.bak” on it. That stands for “backup”, so going into the world folder in file lookup, and choosing his world name, all he has to do is edit the name of the file and simply remove the “.bak” from the end of it and the game will recognize it and he will be able to play on it again.

Si has perdido algún personaje de Terraria con muchas horas puestas, esta guía es para ti.
If you lost any character, in this guide I show you the solution.
— Ir a C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\
If this happened to you, relax, do not weep in a corner. Don´t even think about seek in the (questionable) Steam Support and how to contact them. And even less do a Rage Quit and leave for whole life an awesome game like Terraria.
Just follow these steps and you´ll shout of pure happiness through the window.
— Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata \
— Once there, you will find two folders. One contains the achievements and other the saves files.
— The Terraria Steam ID is 105600. Look through the folders to find the folder that contains the worlds and characters.
— If your problem is an update error in Steam Cloud, you can´t restore it, but youl´ll be able to open the files backup, copy and paste them in the same folder.
