Question: Q: How do I quit the installer. macOS could not be installed. Software is missing or damaged

I tried to download high Sierra on my MacBook Pro. It could not be installed. The path/system/installation packages OSinstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged. Quit the installer to restart your company. How do I quit the installer? I click on the restart button and it just comes back to the same screen.

I had the same issue on my MacBook Pro (13”, Mid 2012).

What worked for me, was starting up in Safe mode by holding down the shift key.

In Safe mode, I was able to open the App Store and install the update. While everything worked a bit slower in Safe mode, it did complete the download, installed the update and restarted in normal mode.

I have experienced this same problem. According to the info on macOS High Sierra my MacBook Pro mid to late 2010 should be compatible. I can’t get into my computer to use it. I am locked in a loop with the message «macOS could not be installed on your computer The path /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.» This is followed by a Restart button.

Quitting the Installer just puts me back in the loop with no way to access my Time Machine backup disk or my previous OSX version.

I am having the same problem, all the same pop ups. Has anyone gotten this resolved? A quick reply would be great.

I had this issue as well and then was able to go to the start up disk in the menu bar which came up accidentally when I was moving the mouse around. This is a MACpro 2015 laptop. We need to upgrade our MACmini because the tax program requires High Sierra. But is this an issue with High Sierra. Very disconcerting.

I only got the message after I turned on the computer. If I get it again I will contact apple. Supposedly I have High Sierra when I look at About This Mac and I have had a couple messages asking if I want to learn more about HS. Just concerned if I turn it off again.

Restart while holding down the space bar did nothing for me. I had to hold down Command+R to get to Disk First Aid

I was having the same problem with the same MacBook and I had an Apple tech helping me but nothing she tried worked, she told me to take it to a store to get someone to work on it. She even tried to completely wipe my computer but the erase process wouldn’t work because it could never unmount the disk.

So I decided to try some of the replies and the one that worked for me was holding the space bar down during startup. It let me back in to my Mac finally but did not update my software. I particularly don’t want to try to upgrade to High Sierra again if it’s going to do that. I’d like to know if the space bar during boot worked for anyone else and if trying to upgrade again was successful. I would hate to try to do it again and get really locked out this time.

Hold down space bar didn’t work for me either. Try your way and run the “First aid” but nothing is wrong according to it.

Question: Q: Mac OS could not be installed on your computer. Installer resources not found.

I have a late 2009 iMac that my son gave me last fall. He replaced the original hard drive with a SSD unit. It is running perfectly with High Sierra 10.13.6. until the other night when a pop- up came on the screen saying updates were available and it would install later that night. I don’t know what the updates were about but next morning, the computer would not start and just got the screen saying Mac OS could not be installed on your computer. Installer resources not found. Quit installer and restart computer. This is an endless loop. I could start in safe mode. Ran disc first aid utility and all was ok. Network shows I’m connected to the internet but none of the apps can access the internet. Spent an hour with Apple Support but they could not solve the problem. Any suggestions.

See if alt key allows booting from 10.13.6

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

If using Wifi, instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.

System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers.
