Just to clarify things a bit: the ‘waterfall‘ error has to do with the IPP-runtime not being installed right.
BTW. We are planning on releasing 1.6 in November (this year…).
So doesn it mean that if «waterfall» error persists then there is no chance to use FreeTrackNoIR?
P.S. I tried all possible solutions but can’t get rid of this bloody «waterfall» error.
P.P.S. On the Intel site the most recent version of the IPP libraries is 7. FaceAPI still uses v5. Maybe this is the reason of «waterfall» error on the CPUs like my i5-2400?
The waterfall-error is one that usually can be solved. Did you also try the faceAPI demo?
BTW.: It is very important to un-install the IPP-runtime before installing the demo, otherwise the installer won’t replace the DLL’s.
Yes, i tried everything except uninstalling IPP-runtime because it doesn’t present neither among installed software in the control panel nor in the start menu (where sometimes exists shortcut «Uninstall…»). But i removed completely FaceTrackNoIR, installed demo only and got the same error. I tried even to download and install evaluation versions of IPP sw directly from the Intel site. Nothing helped. And as far as i see i’m not alone here with my rather new CPU.
stimanov, so what are you trying to say exactly by your last statement? I hope I’m not talking out of turn here, but it sounded as if you didn’t know that in v1.6 of FaceTrackNoIR a problem is solved by which the newer computers were having troubles. Do you have v1.6 yet? And please be patient in your replies, it sounds like you are a bit impatient. If I missread you, please forgive me.
Mr. Scott, please read carefully what was written by v4friend. He writes that v1.6 corrects problems other then «waterfall» error. It means that for those who face this error v1.6 will be unusable like previous versions. The threat here is that this amazing software can become unusable for owners of very popular CPUs under very popular OS versions (my OS is Win7-64). That’s it.
Sorry again, if it is correct what you say. v4friend & his team can only do so much and cannot please everybody, but can only try. I hope your problem is or has been taken care of though, because what they provide us with is great software and comes to us through the kindness of themselves (they could be selling the software, but instead, they have chosen to give it to the community for free).
A lot of users who have W7-64bit successfully run FaceTrackNoIR. I have an i7 with W7-64bit myself and it runs fine. The problem is, as you will understand, still the IPP-runtime library.
You say you cannot un-install the IPP-runtime? That’s a vital step. Since the ‘waterfall-error’ is generated, it must have been installed! Otherwise the program would fail, stating things about missing DLL’s.
So the challenge is: how do you find the IPP-runtime? On my W7 system I can remove it via Control Panel/Remove software. The name starts with «Intel(R) IPP runtime….».
O, I was just checking. SeeingMachines also has a (sort of) FAQ about the problems (though it’s not updated very often…).
You can find it here.
You could try removing the IPP runtime by removing the file ippcore-5.3.dll from the system folder manually?! Haven’t tried that though…
You are right, FreeTrack is pretty good software, I used it for a good 3 years. I had a hard time deciding whether to stay with FreeTrack or go with FaceTrackNoIR. For accuracy, FreeTrack is definitely a better choice at the moment, especially when virtually pressing buttons in a virtual cockpit. But I have grown to enjoy FaceTrackNoIR with it’s limitations and not having the head gear.
OK, I’ve spend some more time to see if I can help you out.
The IPP-runtime is installed as an MSI-package. You can manually un-install these packages, if you know the package ID (which I do…).

I tried this and got a message… it was in Russian, so i don’t know how it will be exactly in English, but something like «Can’t uninstall software which is not installed».
Just to add another data point : I had the same issues as Stimanov. Ran through the same steps as suggested in the known issues and on this page and… no change. FTN will still not start sue to waterfall errors.
Time to put Track IR on the Christmas wishlist, it seems.
