vCenter GUI ‘error’ – “no healthy upstream”, vCenter server (vmware-vpxd) service would not start!

I recently faced an issue – with not being able to access vCenter (v7 Update 1) appliance, after a successful motherboard upgrade. The observed errors were as below:

1. Accessing vCenter GUI – “No healthy upstream”

2. Starting “vCenter server (vmware-vpxd) service” would fail straight away – “An error occurred while starting service ‘vpxd’”

3. Jumping to the vCenter login page by using bookmark (URL) saved before –[400] An error occurred while sending an authentication request to the vCenter Single Sign-On server – An error occurred when processing the metadata during vCenter Single Sign-On setup – Failed to connect to VMware Lookup Service https://:443/lookupservice/sdk – SSL certificate verification failed.”

Ok, the last error was misleading, as I knew that I had not changed any certificates and therefore I isolated it, also I was able to resolve FQDNs from vCenter successfully, implying that the DNS was working.

No Healthy Upstream error when health_check property omitted #1932

Comments

tlhunter commented Oct 24, 2017

This is a bit of a follow up to #1912. I’m currently using only CDS. My CDS endpoint returns information about hundreds services. Here’s a truncated result:

Note that there is no health_check property defined (on any entry) which should mean that health checks are disabled.

However, when I run the application, I notice two things. The first thing is that Envoy takes about 4 minutes before it starts allowing ingress HTTP calls to occur. The output logs which confirm this look like so:

Afterwards, if I make an egress request to the autocomplete service via Envoy, the request will fail. Manually making a cURL request to that same URL will succeed (assuming I replace tcp:// with http:// ). When it fails, Envoy displays the following message:

I am making use of a special Envoy-Discovery-Target header to notify Envoy which discovery service I’m attempting to communicate with. This configuration appears to partly work because when I grep the /stats admin endpoint after three failed egress requests I see the following (all lines with 0 values removed for brevity):

The several minute pause, the upstream_cx_none_healthy: 3 stat, and the envoy process idling at 10% of CPU makes me think that health checking is somehow enabled. Does anyone know these services are listed as unhealthy despite now health checks?

The following is my current configuration:

The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

VMware vCenter server Error no healthy upstream

After completing VMware vCenter server appliance (vcsa) installation and configuration, when tested vCenter UI url https://vcenter:443/ui, I was receiving below error. I restarted vCenter server vcsa multiple times, checked if DNS entries (A host record and PTR pointer record) exists in DNS server for vCenter server, but this error didn’t go away.

To resolve the issue further I checked all the services status, under vCenter server management 5480 vami portal, Restarted couple of services, Checked server health in Monitor, all was good, but still no luck.

Next I found one of the settings which I configured and documented in Unable to save IP settings Install Stage 2 Set up vCenter Server configuration where I had configured vCenter server to obtain IP address from DHCP. I reverted IP address setting from DHCP to static with below steps. Before making any changes make sure you backup vCenter server or take snapshot.

Log in to VMware Server Managment vami portal with 5480 port, go to Networking section and click EDIT. I have only one network adapter and it already selected, click Next.

In last, Ready to complete page verify the settings to be done. Click the checkbox to acknowledge that you have made a backup of your vCenter server and unregistered extensions before continuing with your network configuration.

After network settings have been reconfigured and your vCenter server is up and running, additional actions will be required.
1. All deployed plug-ins will need to be reregistered.
2. All custom certififcates will need to be regenerated.
3. vCenter HA will need to be reconfigured.
4. Hybrid Link with Cloud vCenter server will need to be recreated.
5. Active Directory will need to be rejoined.

Click Finish button.

Avoid refreshing your web browser to ensure a successful network upgrade. Once update is 100% completed close the window and test vCenter server url https://vcenter/ui. All looks good.

If you want to change the same gui setting through vCenter Server SSH. Open shell and change DHCP=no in the file /etc/systemd/network/10-eth0.network as shown on Unable to save IP settings Install Stage 2 Set up vCenter Server configuration.

What does ‘No Healthy Upstream’ mean on Spotify? Is there a fix?

Spotify users left frustrated at new ‘No Healthy Upstream’ error message when using the streaming platforms Web Player, but is there a fix?

For millions of people around the world, Spotify is how we enjoy our favourite artists.

Unfortunately, when an unexpected error gets in the way of our music, it can be incredibly frustrating.

It appears that Spotify is experiencing some technical difficulties today, with thousands of users being met with an unexpected ‘No Healthy Upstream’ error message when using the streaming service.

@SpotifyCares having a «No healthy upstream» error pop up when trying to access web player on google chrome on my laptop, would you be able to help with this issue?

No Healthy Upstream error message

At the time of writing, there is not any meaningful information on the Spotify community page as to what the ‘No Healthy Upstream’ actually means.

Million Dollar Listing LA | Season 13 | Preview Trailer

However, some users are suggesting that this is related to an access issue as a similar problem occurred back in late-2019.

Is there a fix to ‘No Healthy Upstream’ error?

Currently, there isn’t a known fix for the error message, but the issue seems to be on Spotify’s end – not users.

However, this only seems to be an issue for those users using the site through the Web Player.

So, if you have the option available, move over to the dedicated Spotify app or through third-party applications, like a games console, and it should work fine there.

Is this a temporary issue?

Yes, throughout the morning the Spotify Web Player has been returning to normal and then crashing again.

It doesn’t appear that users can do much to help the issue apart from switching over to the app.

Whilst some users have reported that the issue was resolved after 15-20 minutes, others have said that the same error has been reoccurring every hour or so.

It would help if there was an official statement on the issue from Spotify, so if the problem persists than keep an eye out on their Twitter.

How to Fix no healthy upstream vCenter 7 Issue?

When you encounter no healthy upstream error, it means that the vCenter is not up and ready yet. Just wait a few minutes before connecting to vCenter via a web browser.

But every no healthy upstream error is not finished with unprepared vCenter. There might be some issue which does not allow the services of vCenter to be running properly.

Fix vCenter 7 no healthy upstream error?

There is another guide to help you fix no healthy upstream error of vCenter 7. It might be occurred after upgrading vCenter 6.7 to vCenter 7.

Note: make sure you have allocated enough memory and CPU for the vCenter 7 virtual machine. The vCenter 7 is CPU and memory hungry.

Read the related community post on vMware forum.

It’s a nasty error that won’t be fixed by a fresh installation of vCenter7. I’m still trying to find the main cause of this error in vCenter 7.

Hardware Requirements for the vCenter Server Appliance

When you deploy the vCenter Server appliance, you can select to deploy an appliance that is suitable for the size of your vSphere environment. The option that you select determines the number of CPUs and the amount of memory for the appliance. The hardware requirements for a vCenter Server appliance depend on the size of your vSphere inventory.

The upgrade of the appliance is a migration of the old version to the new version, which includes deploying a new appliance of version 7.0. You can deploy the new vCenter Server appliance on an ESXi host 6.5 or later, or on a vCenter Server instance 6.5 or later. Your system must also meet specific software and hardware requirements.

Hardware Requirements for a vCenter Server Appliance

Number of vCPUsMemory
Tiny environment (up to 10 hosts or 100 virtual machines)212 GB
Small environment (up to 100 hosts or 1,000 virtual machines)419 GB
Medium environment (up to 400 hosts or 4,000 virtual machine)828 GB
Large environment (up to 1,000 hosts or 10,000 virtual machines)1637 GB
X-Large environment (up to 2,500 hosts or 45,000 virtual machines)2456 GB

Note: If you want to add an ESXi host with more than 512 LUNs and 2,048 paths to the vCenter Server inventory, you must deploy a vCenter Server appliance for a large or x-large environment.
