You gotta be kidding
Its the PLAYSTATION Players
xD playstation players = bots
PSY NET = Psyonix Network
Cross platform players connecting to the psyonix servers.
On the same platform players see their personal avatars.
Other platforms are visible as PSY NET.
I tested it on Playstation and Steam.
So it doesn’t mean Playstation Network!
But i thought it also first
PSY NET = players who are inferior to you (as long as you play PC)
That’s all you need to know 😉

This is irrelevant to this topic, and is stupid. There are tons of valid reasons to buy consoles over pc, mainly because money/graphics quality does not matter to some people. The fact that you can drive for a couple of minutes to a store, take a console home, and play on it immediately without doing anything else, along with not having to bother about antivirus/pc settings/pc hardware etc. can make consoles a much better choice, especially for parents with kids, or people who are only planning to game casually. Some of the benefits of xbox live/psn (regardless of the price) are also quite good. I pretty much get my money back for xbox live because they give you 2 free games every month, only problem is if they happen to be cheap ones, or ones I don’t like.
PC masterrace is stupid because it isn’t really a masterrace. There are things that are better on console, its just that for the extremely large majority of people the cons outweigh the pros.
all my friends use PS4 and I was smart and Bought the game for Steam. I want us to be able to play with each other, otherwise whats the point of crossplay? just so they can say it, seems pretty misleading to me.
also My PS4 friends had to pay 50 extra bucks (for PS+) to play online.
Whats up with that Dev’s?

Everyones talking about how hard it is to implament all that. did anyone play portal 2 on ps3? it had steam built in so you could cross play. Shouldnt be hard to do that or have them connect with Steam users. other games can do this very easily
The problem with that is that they would need to be connected to some kind of server in the main menu, as there isn’t any way to just send invites from the steam platform through sony’s network, it needs to be ingame. I have no idea what happened to the cross play features between steam and sony but it just seemed to dissapear with the failure of it in cs:go, and to this day I believe that only RL and portal 2 are the only (big) games to have it as a feature.

Another thing to note is the fact that it required valve (the owners of steam and portal) to work with sony, to get the crossplay working.
It would be difficult as a third party to get them to work together like that.
necro thread but it comes down to sony allowing cross play parties* between microsoft xbone and ps4.
@metalpeslfx yes thats how it works in WT. but they have better ingame voice chat for parties.

Third party networks cost money. Sony has to pay a team to analyze what’s being sent to their «cloud» via the steam network. Ensure they bug test, check compatibility, handle communications across their networks that offers something that’s playable on their network. Among many things I assume. These things take time which requires one of their employees to give the man hours to ensure a solid release release on the their network.
Simple version. Cross platform costs more because in the long run there is a cost for dev’s, publishers, hosts, support, analytics and staffing in general.
In response to the general question of what PysNet is.. Well from the icons we know it’s someone connected via the PS4 network. From there, depending on the server it could be an actual human being playing but obviously you may find yourself against PS4 AI/Scripting. I don’t know much about the PlayStation platform overall. I stopped funding Sony some time ago.

You have to pay for ps+ to play online multiplayer in any game (to my knowledge) just like xbox live gold, and both services give you free monthly games/sales etc. So it isn’t all bad for them.
Also you gotta think about how hard it is to implement the ability for players to not just connect to the same servers regardless of platform, but for them to be able to interact with each other. The only way I think it would work is to join some kind of lobby server or somehow connect to the network, and psyonix’s network would then have your current username that it pulls from your steam/ps+ account, and then you can search for your friends current username, and send an ingame invite. However this could be impossible, I don’t know much about server/network infrastructures.

we had that for so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ long lmao
So PSY NET means they are Xbox as well as PS 4 players now? I thought PSY NET means only PS 4.

Wow, this is not correct at all. PSYNet is Psyonix Network. It’s the icon that you see when you’re playing against console players, whether they be on Xbox or PS4. Just because there’s a PS in it, doesn’t make it Playstation. They’re also real players all the time. If they’re just driving in a straight line, or in a circle, it’s not AI, it’s a rubber band on a controller.
Also, as mentioned before, nice, useful necro.
