I was able to resolve the issue with just hte security settings reset. I did not run the subinACL install or any of the other commands. I had already changed the broadcast flags as well as the other fixes through the tool here:

To use the tool is simple

1. Click on «Query Adapter» to get the list of network adapters in your systmer

2. Select the adapter you wish to fix. Reboot your system and see if you can get an IP from DHCP.

3. If you wish to undo the fix, select the adapter and choose «Reset to Vista Default».

Upon request from some friend with sonicwall problems I have added arpretrycount to the tool. Hope this helps more people download it HERE.

I had tried the broadcast flag on 2 other PCs with no luck in the past. This still did not fix it. I was hoping that sp1 would also help, but it didn’t. I didn’t have any problems with DHCP until i joined our corporate domain. then, i could NOT receive addresses from any dhcp server whether home routers such as linksys, netgear, or belkin, nor from my cisco routers at work (when testing), nor from at least 6 different win2k3 dhcp servers at various branches for my organization. There must be something that the windows2003 GPO seems to screw up with the default security settings when you join a domain. None of my XP machines have any problems. I’m just so happy that it works. now i can start testing vista with our legacy applications.

Also, i could NEVER get my bluetooth mouse and keyboard to connect to this laptop (m1710) as when i went to add the bluetooth services after the device was discovered. It would always tell me access denied (i’m an administrator of the laptop of course) when trying to download the HID device drivers. Well, this fix ALSO FIXED THAT. i had read about all sorts of problems with people trying to share files between xp and vista, and i hadn’t tried this in the past, but it is working with no problems. not sure if that’s from sp1 or this fix. My boss has a vista machine at home that was upgraded and runs fine besides NOT being able to share files or printers with his daughters’ xp machines. I’ve given him sp1 on a disc, and also the command for this fix. i should know thursday which one fixes their issues with sharing and seeing PCs on his wireless/wired network at home. He’s doing sp1 first, and then if that doesn’ work, he’s going to try the secedit command. Seriously. i’ve been dealing with having to change the static ip address EVERYWHERE i went for EVERY NETWORK i connected to. I’ve now been to 3 different networks, and used a variety of connected and wireless connections and each time its gotten the dhcp address with no problems. It also picked up the reservation i made for this laptop a long time ago when at my datacenter. seriously. vista just rose from a 3/10 to a 7/10 with JUST THIS FIX.

Fix Windows Media Player ‘Server Execution Failed’ in Windows 10

Windows Media Player is the primary media player in Windows 10 and of the most successful software launched by Microsoft for Windows. It is usually bug free (unless a specific file is unsupported), however, many users have reported the following an error while trying to play media:

Server Execution Failed

The causes could be many. The issue could be with the file, or the system. It might be because of an update which doesn’t allow WMP to recognize the file type.

We will troubleshoot the issue sequentially, isolating every possibility one by one:

Solution 1 – End Windows media player task in Task manager

1. Press CTRL + Shift + Esc keys together to open Task manager.

2. Now, Right click on Windows media player and choose end task.

Solution 2- Re-register DLL files through Command Prompt

1] Search for Command Prompt in the Windows search bar and right-click on the icon. Select Run as administrator.

2] In the administrative command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter to execute them:

Solution 3- Just Rename the file

Some users have reported that by just renaming the file and playing it again, fixes the issue. You can also give it a try.

Solution 4- Disable Windows Media Player Network Sharing service

Step 1: search services in windows 10 search box and click on services to open service manager window.

Step 2: Locate Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.

Step 3: Double click on Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

Step 4: Set Startup type as Disabled.

Step 5: Click on Apply and OK.

Step 6: Restart your PC and try opening the file again in windows media player.

Solution 5 – Disable and Re-enable WMP-

Disabling and re-enabling Windows Media Player (WMP) from Windows Features will surely help you out.

1. Press Windows key+E to open File Explorer window on your computer.

2. In File Explorer window, navigate to this location-

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player

3. In Media Player folder, to select all of the contents, copy all the contents of this folder and paste it in any other folder inside your PC to create a backup.

4. Now, go to a favorable folder of your choice to paste these contents. This will be a backup of the Windows Media Player database. We will need this later.

Once done, close File Explorer window.

5. Press Windows key+R to launch Run window on your computer. In Run window, type or copy-paste “optionalfeatures” and hit Enter.

Windows Features panel will prevail.

6. In Windows Features panel, uncheck the “Media Features” option.

7. Click on “OK” to save the changes.

Let Windows make the changes on your computer. This may take a while.

Once done, click on “Close“.

8. Close Windows Features window.

Restart your computer.

9. After restarting, press Windows key+R to launch Run window on your computer. In Run window, type “optionalfeatures” and hit Enter to open Windows Features.

10. In Windows Features window, scroll down and check the option “Media Features” option.

11. Finally, click on “OK” to re-enable the settings on your computer.

Let Windows make the changes on your computer. This process will take some time.

12. Click on “Close” once the process is complete.

13. Press Windows key+E to open File Explorer and then navigate to the folder where you had stored the backup.

14. Copy all of the contents of the backup.

15. Now, go to this location in File Explorer–

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player

16. Press ‘Ctrl+V‘ to paste the contents here.

Once you have completed this changes, close File Explorer window.

Try to play any music with Windows Media Player. It should work just fine.

Solution 6- Check if the media file works with the other recommended media player

When I say Windows Media Player is the primary media player for Windows 10, it simply means the better media player that Microsoft provides in Windows 10 systems by default. The other 2 media applications are Groove music for audio and Movies & TV for videos.

Try playing your file in Windows 10 with the other 2 applications and check if it works. This is to isolate whether the issue is with the file type or system.

Solution 7- Use the Windows store apps troubleshooter

Since Windows Media Player is a Windows store app, the Windows Store app troubleshooter could be helpful in identifying and resolving the problem.

1] Click on the Start button and then the gear-like symbol to open the Settings page.

2] Go to Updates and security and then to the Troubleshoot tab.

3] Select the Window store apps troubleshooter and run it.

4] Restart the system.

Solution 8- Clean boot

Solution 10- Add Windows Media Player to the exception list for your anti virus

Top anti virus software are trying to sideline Windows Media Player and this is a well reported fact. In case that is what causes the error in your system, you might consider adding Windows Media Player to the exception list of your anti virus software.

Solution 11- Temporarily disable the anti virus program

If merely adding Windows Media Player to the exception list doesn’t help, you might consider temporarily disabling the anti virus and checking if it helps.

Solution 12- Reinstall Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is a feature of Windows and not merely and external program. The procedure to reinstall Windows Media Player is as follows:

1] Press Win + R to open the Run window. Type control panel and press Enter to open the Control Panel window.

2] Go to Programs and features.

3] On the list on the left-hand side, select Turn Windows features on or off.

4] In the list, scroll to Media features and expand the list.

5] Uncheck the checkbox corresponding to Windows Media Player.

6] Restart the system.

Solution 10- Restart the Windows Media Player Network Sharing service

2] In the list which is alphabetically arranged, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing service and right-click on it. Select Properties.

3] Click on Stop to stop the service. Wait till it is completely stopped and the same is mentioned in the service status.

4] Now change the Startup type to to Automatic and now click on Start.

5] Click on Apply and then OK to save the settings.

6] Restart the system.

Solution 11- Reinstall Java

1] Click on the Start button and then on the gear-like symbol to open the Settings page.

2] Go to Apps and find Java among the list of apps installed on the system.

3] Select Java and click on uninstall to remove it from the system.

4] Restart the computer.

5] Now download Java from its website and install it on the system again.

[FIX] Server Execution Failed Error In Windows 10

By default, File Explorer in Windows operating systems (OSes) shares same explorer.exe process for all Explorer windows. This means if you open Desktop, Taskbar and few File Explorer windows, they all will be sharing a common process, named explorer.exe. Hence, when you press End Task button for this same process in Task Manager, you’ll find that Desktop and Taskbar is also restarted along with File Explorer.

However, sometimes the third-party software you use on your Windows may change the above mentioned default behavior, and may allow the OS to launch folder windows as a separate process. If this happens, Desktop and Taskbar will get isolated explorer.exe process separated from File Explorer‘s explorer.exe process. The new instances of File Explorer launched will have other brand-new explorer.exe processes. Hence, now if you restart Explorer windows, Desktop and Taskbar won’t be reloaded and they keep running.

Recently, we came around an issue in Windows 10 which is supposed to occur if OS is launching folder windows as separate process. The error is:

Server execution failed.

This error, although may be suppressed by clicking OK button along with error message. But by this, you can’t confirm that error will not appear later. It can occur anytime on any Windows OS edition, which is launching separate instances of folder window. These simple fixes will help you to resolve it:

FIX 1 – Using Registry Editor

Registry Disclaimer: The further steps will involve registry manipulation. Making mistakes while manipulating registry could affect your system adversely. So be careful while editing registry entries and create a System Restore point first.

1. Press + R and put regedit in Run dialog box to open Registry Editor (if you’re not familiar with Registry Editor, then click here). Click OK.

2. In the left pane of Registry Editor, navigate to following registry key:

3. In the right pane corresponding Advanced registry key, scroll down and look for SeparateProcess named registry DWORD (REG_DWORD). Since you’re facing this issue, the Data for it might be set to 1. Double click on the DWORD to modify its Value data:

I tried all the methods that you have mentioned here but still my problem persist.
My problem is that I cannot open a video file to play on Windows Media Player using OPEN WITH on the Context Menu. I can Open With all other media players except WMC. However, I can play any video clip directly Opening it on the Windows Media Player Icon on my desktop. If I keep this WMP window open and try to use Open With command on Context Menu it works but only once. The next time I try to open the same file error message shows up. Server Execution failed. So my problem is that I can open WMP directly from the ICON on desktop but not from the Context Menu from desktop.

Step 2 fails by giving “Server failed to execute” error when it hit the line in my test where tries to open a folder using ProcessStart(“folder path”) method.

Step 3: Now close the command prompt and check if the Windows Media Player is opening correctly.

Solution 3: Disable Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

Step 1: Open the Run box by pressing the Windows + R keys at the same time.

Step 2: Now type «services.msc» in the box and then hit «Enter» to open services.

Step 3: After that, look for «Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service» on the list, right-click it, and select the «Stop» option.

Step 4: The next step is to double-click the «Windows Network Sharing Service» again and select Properties. A box will appear where you will find the «Startup type» option — click on it and choose «Disabled.»

Step 5: Now, click «Apply» followed by «OK»

Step 6: The final step is to close services and then try to play a media file using Media Player to check whether the server execution problem is solved or not.

Note: If the «server execution failed» error still appears, then try again and set the «Startup type» to «Automatic» and click the «Start» button. This might solve the issue.

Step 1: Open the Settings app by pressing the Windows + I keys together and then choose «Update & Security.»
